About us

St Maroun’s Preschool opened its doors for the first child in January 1989.

The Preschool’s aim is to provide a secure and safe environment within a warm relaxed atmosphere; we endeavour to bridge the gap between home and formal schooling. We believe children “learn through play” through experiencing, manipulating, exploring, observing and by being involved. We also aim to provide a service, which fulfills all the child’s basic needs that allows them to be, belong and become who they want to be.

We encourage children to become independent, and allow them to direct their own learning.

Through this we are able to connect children with our centre through belonging, being and becoming.

The Image of the Child

At St Maroun’s Preschool, we celebrate the uniqueness of every child, believing that each one is capable, confident, and empowered to take responsibility for constructing their own learning journey. This approach lays a solid foundation for their future. We emphasize creating a well-rounded environment that embraces flexibility in learning styles and methods, allowing children to explore their potential, develop their strengths, and nurture their independence.
Guided by the Early Years Learning Framework, our program is child-centered and holistic, ensuring that every child feels safe, secure, and supported in meeting their individual needs. We place a strong emphasis on the learning process over the final product, offering experiences tailored to each child’s interests, strengths, and emerging skills. By doing so, we provide an environment where children can grow, learn, and thrive at their own pace.

Partnership with Families

At Preschool, we respect and incorporate the beliefs and values of families, as we understand that consistency between home and school is essential for children’s learning. By recognizing and valuing the diverse perspectives of families, we foster a harmonious partnership in each child’s educational journey. We actively encourage parental involvement in our program, creating a shared foundation where we collaborate to support the growth and development of the child.
Through our online platform, Storypark, families have direct access to observations and the educational program. This tool allows them to engage with their child’s learning by providing feedback through comments on observations and the program itself.

Educational Curriculum

Play-based learning is the cornerstone of our educational curriculum. We deeply value hands-on experiences, ensuring that children not only learn but also have fun while exploring. By allowing children to take the lead in their own exploration and learning journey, we foster a sense of autonomy and confidence.
Through small group learning, we provide intentional and responsive teaching that meets each child’s needs. As Early Childhood Educators, our goal is to offer an anti-bias curriculum that is stimulating, challenging, and developmentally appropriate. This approach supports the holistic development of each child, promoting optimal learning across all areas.
As a preschool, we place great importance on our transition-to-school program, understanding that consistency in routine is vital for children’s development. This program focuses on building self-help skills, independence, and the development of social and emotional skills, which are essential for a smooth transition to school. We actively encourage and support values such as kindness, respect, and acceptance, as we believe these qualities are crucial in preparing children for their next stage of learning.

Engage with Community

We are committed to actively engaging with the community through incursions and collaborative experiences with St Maroun’s college. We acknowledge and respect the cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, expressing our deep appreciation and gratitude for the First Nations of Australia. By connecting with the broader community, we not only expand children’s knowledge but also strengthen the preschool’s ties to the world beyond its walls.
We emphasize the importance of fostering a multicultural community, which encourages sensitivity to the diverse cultural backgrounds of the children in our care. As part of this commitment, we integrate cross-cultural education and activities into our program, ensuring that every child feels valued and celebrated.

Sustainability

Children connect with and contribute to their world by engaging in sustainable practices. At the service, we promote environmental care by encouraging children to take responsibility for our garden and worm farm. We actively involve both children and families in our sustainability efforts, fostering an understanding of reducing, reusing, recycling, and repurposing.

Professionalism and Critical Reflection

St Maroun’s Preschool ensures every educator acquires the latest information about pedagogy and practices through professional development. The educators actively engage in critical reflections to identify our strengths and areas of improvement. Every educator is open to respectful communication with each other and works collaboratively to build a compassionate and quality teaching environment.

Inclusive Practices

Inclusiveness is one of the key components within Preschool’s Philosophy. Guided by the ‘The Convention on the Rights of the Child,’ Preschool highlights equality; we respect every child and family’s cultural backgrounds, beliefs, and practices. We embrace diversity and enthusiasm in celebrating significant events from various cultures.

Year on year, I see how much progress Eliana has made at St Marouns Preschool. Not only academically, but also socially, the friendships she has gained, communicating with her peers, her confidence and independence has improved greatly, and most importantly the respect she shows others. Credit goes out to her amazing teachers and Sisters, all who have contributed significantly towards Eliana's development. Thank you so much for the guidance, teaching and support you all have given Eliana since she started at the early age of 3.

At St Marouns Pre-School, I am overly satisfied with the education that my daughter Bridget is receiving. My daughter has changed a lot - coming home singing, dancing, telling her stories that she has done and achieved throughout her day

St Marouns Pre-School is a cultural school, which is important for our children as they strive to grow and learn in all aspects to their abilities. They teach with pride and intergrade with all facilities available. It is a great pre-school, not only did I just find out but I had my older son attend the same pre-school 6 years ago, who also loved it and is attending St Maroun's Primary.
